What lead auditor training covers

A Lead Auditor course is the audit-team-leader level of management system auditor training. It goes beyond checking conformity: you learn to scope an audit, build an audit programme, brief and direct an audit team, manage opening and closing meetings, gather and test objective evidence, grade findings and write reports that stand up to review.

The methodology follows ISO 19011 for management system auditing, and — for courses aimed at certification-body work — the requirements of ISO/IEC 17021-1 that govern how bodies audit and certify management systems.

Most MEGADEMİ Lead Auditor courses run for five days and combine standard interpretation, audit technique, role-play interviews, a full audit simulation and a written examination.

Typical prerequisites

Adequate English (or the delivery language of the cohort) for interview role-plays and written work

Personnel certification with a scheme such as Exemplar Global is a separate application you make to that body; it also has its own experience requirements

How to choose the right course

Start from the standard your organisation is certified to, or wants to be certified to.
Choose Lead Auditor when you will lead audits or audit other organisations; choose Internal Auditor when you will audit your own organisation.
If you will build and run the management system rather than audit it, a Lead Implementer course is the better fit.
Check the standard's current edition — the course title shows the edition it covers.
If several colleagues need the same course, ask about in-house delivery instead of booking individual seats.

What is the difference between an auditor and a lead auditor course?+

An auditor or internal auditor course qualifies you to take part in audits. A lead auditor course adds audit-team leadership: planning the audit, allocating work to team members, chairing opening and closing meetings, controlling the audit trail and owning the audit report and its conclusions.

Do I need audit experience before a Lead Auditor course?+

It is not a formal barrier on every course, but it makes a large difference. Delegates who have taken part in at least a few internal audits get much more from the audit simulation. If you have none, an internal auditor course first is the cheaper route to the same destination.

How long is Lead Auditor training?+

Most MEGADEMİ Lead Auditor courses are five days. The course page for each programme shows its own duration and daily programme.

Is the training available online?+

Yes. MEGADEMİ delivers online, in-person and blended. In-house delivery for a single organisation is also available on request.

Does completing the course make me a certified lead auditor?+

Completing the course gives you a MEGADEMİ course certificate. Personnel certification — for example with Exemplar Global — is a separate application to that certification body, which assesses your training together with your audit experience and other scheme requirements.
